Video Game Music of the Week - 18

Grandia II (Dreamcast)

Fight! Version 1, Out For Lunch, Have Faith In Yourself

Noriyuki Iwadare

Grandia II was released on the Dreamcast initially and after some time it was ported to the Playstation 2 and PC. The music was composed by Noriyuki Iwadare who has worked extensively on the Grandia series, as well as composing some music for the Y’s series and the Mega Man series.

Fight! Version 1

This track is the normal battle music that plays throughout the game. In order for a battle music song to be successful, it needs to have replay-value to the song. These battle tracks are played many many times during RPG games, so it needs to have enough variety to be listenable after many replays. Grandia II’s battle theme is capable of this and is why it is a brilliant battle track.

Out For Lunch

This track really shows the innocence to Grandia II and amplifies those really heartfelt and peaceful moments that appear in the game, as opposed to the entire overall journey which has a lot of weight to the success of the team. When I think about the music in Grandia II, this track really stands out in my mind.

Have Faith in Yourself

Another upbeat track similar to Out For Lunch. This track plays during moments of regular old travelling throughout the game. It has a distinct quality that Mr. Iwadare adds to he’s music compositions.
