Uncharted: Golden Abyss - Review

The Playstation Vita launched with one of Playstation’s most recently successful franchises, Uncharted. Does this pocket size Nathan Drake adventure live up to the standards of the Playstation 3 entries?

Pokémon Black and White sequels incoming.

For the first time ever, a generation of Pokémon games will not be receiving a third title. Instead, they will receive two more titles, with the names Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2. For their English release, they will be titled Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2.

Not many details have been revealed about this upcoming game, except that they will be released on the Nintendo DS (not the 3DS) and that they will feature the same generation of Pokémon from Black and White. The game is scheduled to be released in Japan in June of this year. Let’s just hope they can localise the game for an English release sometime before the year is out. The game will also feature two new forms of the legendary Pokémon, Kyurem, which can be seen below.

Kid Icarus: Uprising gets official date for Australian release

Kid Icarus: Uprising, a game which was excepted to be released sometime early in the 3DS’s life has finally received a release date for Australia. The game will be hitting stores on March 29th.

Nintendo recently released a trailer showcasing how the multiplayer works. The trailer can be seem below.

The Kid Icarus series has not seen a game in over 20 years and this release is a new twist on the franchise, with the character design coming from the latest Smash Bros. game, Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Now that Sakurai has finished up on development on Kid Icarus: Uprising, he will begin development on the new upcoming Smash Bros. games for Wii U and 3DS.

GameGear games coming to the Nintendo 3DS

In the next coming months, 3DS owners will be able to get there hands on downloadable GameGear games via the Nintendo eShop. SEGA’s mostly unsuccessful handheld will be given new life via downloadable means. Its great to see the eShop expand like this and I’m hoping to see Gameboy Advance games, as well as SNES titles appear at some point in time.

Sazh appears in XIII-2 DLC

The next DLC has been announced for the recently released Final Fantasy XIII-2. The DLC chapter will be named ‘Sazh: Head or Tails?’ and is due to be released on Feb 28th for Xbox 360 and Feb 29th for Playstation 3. The chapter will tell the story of Sazh that occurs parallel to the main story to XIII-2. Once the chapter has been completed, you will be able to add Sazh to your party, much like you can with Lightning, as part of the first DLC that was released. Alongside this DLC pack, new card games will be added to Serendipity, as well as the ability to purchase new outfits for Noel and Serah. Sazh’s story will cost 400 Microsoft Points (Xbox 360) or $4.99US (PS3), and the costumes will cost 240 Microsoft Points (Xbox 360) or $2.99US (PS3).

Europe gets yet another confirmed RPG for the Wii

The third title in Operation Rainfall (the movement to get Japan only RPG’s for the Wii released stateside), Pandora’s Tower, has been given a release date of April the 13th for Europe. This follows Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story, which were previously Japan only titles that were localised for release across European regions, as well as Australia. This news almost guarantees that the game will be released in Australia shortly after, as is/was the case with The Last Story and Xenoblade Chronicles. The latter was recently announced to be given a release in North America, so its possible that Nintendo of America will eventually bring The Last Story, and the recently announced Pandora’s Tower over to American consumers.

With the Wii lacking in future releases, it would be a shame to not see such highly praised games given a deserved release in English regions.

Assassin's Creed III releasing this October

According to CEO Yves Guillemot, the upcoming Assassin’s Creed III game will be hitting stores sometime in October this year. Previously it was confirmed that another full-fledged Assassin’s Creed game would be coming in 2012 and we now have a release window for the game.

The game has been said to complete the story of Desmond.

Its unsure what systems the game will be released on, but we can assume Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Also, it is likely that we will see the game on the upcoming Wii U, as it was previously announced that an Assassin’s Creed game was headed to the Wii U.

R18+ Classification Sceduled for Australia in January 2013

Today, Minister for Home Affairs and minister for Justice Jason Clare has finally introduced the legislation that will allow video games to be classified as R18+ in Australia. Provided the legislation is passed without any incidents, it will come into effect on the 1st of January 2013. This is great news for Australian gamers and is proof that Australia is finally growing up, and coming into line with the rest of the world. When the legislation eventually comes into effect, what previously banned games will finally be released down under? Mortal Kombat? Syndicate? lets hope they are all eventually released.

8 DLC songs availabe on launch of Final Fantasy Theatrhythm

When Final Fantasy Theatrhythm launches in Japan on February the 16th there will be 8 DLC songs available for purchase. This will be the first Nintendo 3DS title to have paid DLC. The 8 tracks are listed below:

  • Final Fantasy II - Battle Scene 1
  • Final Fantasy IV - The Final Battle
  • Final Fantasy IX - Fighters of the Crystal
  • Final Fantasy V - Hikari wo Motomete
  • Final Fantasy VII - Cosmo Canyon
  • Final Fantasy VIII - Ride On
  • Final Fantasy X - Someday the Dream Will End

The game has not been confirmed for release outside of Japan as of yet. It would be great to see this game released elsewhere. Final Fantasy is a huge worldwide franchise and the game would prove to be quite successful due to the brand name.

Kart racing, Little Big Planet style.

The successful playstation franchise of LittleBigPlanet is mixing it up with the release of a Kart Racing game. Via the official Playstation Twitter, it was announced that LittleBigPlanet Karting is currently in development. No thorough information has been released on the game, except that it is officially in development for Playstation (Playstation 3, Vita or both).

Final Fantasy X HD will be more of a 'Remaster' as opposed to 'Remake'

It was announced last year that Final Fantasy X will be rereleased in HD for its 10-year anniversary. Not much has been revealed about the upcoming rerelease, but recently, Shinji Hasimoto (Square-Enix) stated that the game will be much like the Playstation 2 release, with a few minor changes to gameplay and a lot of changes to the graphics. He stated that the game is not being ‘remade’ but will still look tremendously better.

We have seen number of remastered games in the past year (Ico & Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid Collection) and this is great for people who want to experience these games again or for those who missed them the first time they appeared. It would have been fantastic to see a Final Fantasy PS2 collection, with Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2 and Final Fantasy XII all bundled together, but this release will do just fine, as Final Fantasy X is (in my opinion) one of the best entries in the series. The game will be released on the Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita, no release date has been announced yet.

Goodbye PSN, Hello SEN

Starting soon, The Playstation Network (PSN) will be renamed the Sony Entertainment Network (SEN). This re-branding will allow Sony to use the accounts for the current PSN across a wide broad of online Sony devices, not specifically Playstation branded devices. SEN, previously named Qriocity, is responsible for Sony’s online streaming services, which includes, music, games, videos and e-books. This shane to the PSN network is intended to ‘Unify’ Sony’s online presence.

Sony’s PSN branding took a beating last year when the well-documented PSN hack occurred, this will also allow Sony to release some of the stigma that may be associated with the name PSN.
