Final Fantasy XII Remaster May Just Be On The Way

During a recent Final Fantasy Distant Worlds concert, conductor Arnie Roth mentioned the existence of a
Final Fantasy XII remaster. He stated a “Remake” of the 2006 title was on the way, however it appears he may have incorrectly used the world “Remake” instead of “Remaster.” Arnie Roth later wrote on twitter,

“In response to comments posted by fans, I want to clarify a statement made from the stage on Saturday night at our Distant Worlds: music from
FINAL FANTASY concert in Pittsburgh. Following conversations with composer Hitoshi Sakimoto regarding new concert arrangements of music from FINAL FANTASY XII, regrettably, the term ‘remake’ was used in error during one of the announcements that took place from the stage during the concert. We sincerely regret any confusion this has cause.”

Square-Enix has yet to officially announce any Final Fantasy XII remaster, but it appears it may just be on the way. Stay tuned.

Sony Posts Loss in Their Annual Earnings. Sony Lowers Their Vita Sales Predicitions

This year saw the release of Sony’s second major handheld console, PlayStation Vita. The device has not been fairing too well in the markets, and the reason for this may possibly be related to the small range of software available for the console. Sony has also lowered the sale prediction for the PlayStation Vita and PSP from 16 million units, down to 12 million.

On top of this, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and PSP have all seen steep drops in sale numbers. This seems to be an expected change, as a new console generation is just on the horizon.

Final Fantasy XIV's Realm is Reborn

We’ve all heard about
Final Fantasy XIV’s original launch and how the game lacked something special, even essential, when it was first released on the PC. Square-Enix was dedicated to improving the overall quality of the game, before it’s PlayStation 3 launch, something that many companies would ignore once the game has technically been developed and finished.

The new update, originally titled
Final Fanatsy XIV 2.0 has been built from the ground up to truly turn what was considered a rather poor effort, into something grander and more enjoyable for long-standing fans and newcomers of the series. The update will feature a new world to explore and a new storyline to follow.

The overhaul has been renamed
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and will launch for the PlayStation 3 and PC sometime soon (PC as an update, and PlayStation 3 as a retail release)

Is Sega Working on Sonic Adventure 3?

Rumours have begun circulating that Sega may be working on a third entry in one of
Sonic the Hedgehog’s most well-loved sub-series.

Roughly three months ago, eight
Sonic Adventure 3 domains were scooped up by the same 1&1 Hosting division in France, suggesting that those domain names may be parked for the future. This news should be taken extremely lightly at this point, but at the very least, Sonic Adventure 3 remains a slight possibility.

Sonic Adventure was first released for the Dreamcast in 1998 and marked the turning point in the series, leading Sonic towards a 3D platforming future. Sonic Adventure 2 was released in 2001 and is still regarded as one of he best 3D Sonic games in existence. Just recently, Sega announced a HD rerelease of Sonic Adventure 2 will be coming to Xbox Live and PSN sometime this year. The release would definitely help coincide with an announcement of a third game in the Sonic Adventure series.

Wii U Mass Effect 3 Will Include Extended Cut

After a relatively surprising reveal during E3 this year, Nintendo confirmed that
Mass Effect 3 will be releasing for their upcoming console, Wii U. Although it’s a rather strange third party release, considering the connection that the game has with previous entries in the series, Mass Effect 3 is still a stellar game and tends to act as a proving point that Nintendo’s next console will be able to compete with current-generation consoles at the very least.

The series producer, Michael Gamble, revealed that the extended ending that was released recently will be included on disc for the Wii U version. What still hasn’t been revealed though is how the key story points from
Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 that affect Mass Effect 3 will be incorporated into this game. Perhaps it will be similar to how Mass Effect 2 worked on the PlayStation 3, but at this point, all guesses are as good as mine.

Mass Effect 3 was released early this year in March for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. No date has been announced yet for the Wii U edition.

Nintendo has still not revealed a release date for the Wii U, but it is likely that once they do, we will know when
Mass Effect 3 will be releasing. Most probably on launch day.

The pledges just keep on coming in, even during writing this news post, the funding has increased by $15,000. A video that outlines much of the basics surrounding the console can be seen on the
Kickstarter page. The Ouya will release in March, 2013.

The Legend of Zelda Anime in the Works.

No, we aren’t referring to the 1989 cartoon series.

ComicBookMovie has revealed news of a Legend of Zelda anime based on the A Link to the Past Manga and game. The Web series will feature well known voice actors such as Vic Mignogna from the Dragonball Z and Fullmetal Alchemist Dubs). The series will be developed by Zelda Motion, and a statement from them reads as follows:

"Officially, Zeldamotion is a project run by Aeipathy Industries. Mike Patch (Mechawatts) has started this on his own and will finish it on his own. The incredible voice acting cast featuring Todd Haberkorn (Allen Walker, from D-Grayman), Vic Mignogna (Edward Elric, from Full Metal Alchemist), Kent Williams (Father from Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood) and Kira Buckland (Princess and Medusa, from Castle Crashers), has already recorded their roles and is being synced up to the animations.

The new trailer will be available within the next couple of weeks, to go along with the Kickstarter to help funding this and future episodes. I will finish the project with or without the Kickstarter or other funding. Kickstarter or other funding will just make it happen sooner, and enable future episodes to be done in a fraction of the time."

Stay tuned for news on the first official trailers, as well as information regarding the Kickstarter fund.

JB HI FI Australia Lists Retail Price for Wii U Games In-Store.

According to JB-Hi-Fi, an Australian home entertainment store, Wii U games will apparently launch at the cost of $99. A price for the console has not been listed, but EB Games Australia has listed an estimated price of $598, as well as a price of $98 for a second Wii U GamePad and $78 for a Wii U Pro Controller. The console price of $598 seems to be very high for a new Nintendo console, and it is highly likely that the price will decrease once Nintendo officially announce the pricing for the new home console. EB Games also has a retail price of $108 for Wii U games.

For now, we will have to wait for an official update from Nintendo in regards to the price and release date, which should surely appear anytime soon.

Fez Gets Patched. Xbox Live Takes It Down.

After a long development cycle, Fez, the Xbox Live Indie Game, was released in April of this year and with it, came a few minor bugs. The creator, Phil Fish, stated that this was one of the reasons why the development of the game took so long. After the game was released the development team of two, promised to continue to work on fixing any errors that made it into the game. Last week a patch was released that was said to fix a few of these bugs, however, the patch brought along with it an error that corrupted game saves which the team did not foresee. For now, Microsoft has pulled the patch, so it will not affect new players, or those who have not updated as of yet. Keep this in mind when the next patch hits as a lot of people have already lost their save files.

Nintendo held three major direct broadcasts today (each focusing on different regions) to reveal some information about the future of the company. During the broadcast Nintendo announced that three previously known games that were released in Japan will be released in North America, Europe and Australia, as well as a new game.

The first is
Pokémon Typing Adventure for the Nintendo DS. The game was initially released in Japan last year under the name of Pokémon Battle & Get, but for obvious reasons, it wasn’t released elsewhere. Nintendo has now confirmed that the game will be coming, along with the keyboard peripheral, which will be compatible with other bluetooth connections.

Secondly, Nintendo confirmed that Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, which was also released in Japan last year, will be coming to 3DS owners late this year, one year after its initial release. It was only a matter of time until Nintendo announced the game for North America, Europe and Australia and at least we now know it will be coming.

Nintendo also announced that
Fire Emblem 3DS will be coming, which we already knew thanks to Reggie spilling the beans during E3 this year. It won’t be released until early 2013 though. Also, Nintendo announced that Animal Crossing for the 3DS will be coming early 2013 as well, but like Fire Emblem, no trailer or official name was revealed.

GAME Australia Says Goodbye.

After many presumed it in light of the business going into administration, GAME, one of Australia’s largest video game retailers have announced that they will be closing every store. The remaining 31 stores will close in the coming weeks and a closing down sale has commenced with up to 60 percent off certain items in-store and online.

Yet Another Step Closer to a More Appropriate Video Game Rating System in Australia (R18+)

We are yet another step closer to an R18+ rating in Australia as today, a legislation was passed through Australian parliament that will allow for an R18+ rating system in Australia. Australia is one of the only countries to not have an R18+ rating system and because of this, video games are often banned, changed or even oddly, downgraded to a lower rating, such as an MA15+ rating. It will still be sometime before the new rating is introduced, but we can now rest assure that the rating system is coming. Slowly.

Xbox 720 Document Leaked

An unconfirmed document has leaked revealing information about an upcoming successor to the Xbox 360. The document, which may be true or an elaborate hoax, reveals that the ‘Xbox 720’ will feature Blu-ray disc capability, 1080p and 3D movie playback. On top of this, the document unveils a new Kinect v2, as well as AR technology glasses named ‘Project Fortaleza’ that are similar to Googles recently revealed Project Glass.

The leaked information suggests that the console will release for $299US and will be very focused on providing a multimedia experience for the living room environment.

This news should be taken lightly of course, as Microsoft has not confirmed any of the information revealed in the document, only saying that they do not comment on rumour or speculation. The original document has since been taken down.

Miyamoto Discusses the Future of Zelda 3DS.

Miyamoto, the creator of The Legend of Zelda series, has openly stated that the future of the Legend of Zelda franchise on the 3DS hasn’t been fully decided yet. At this point, the company is unsure whether to release a Majora’s Mask remake, an A Link to the Past remake or a sequel to A Link to the Past. A sequel to A Link to the Past would be amazing because it would allow for the nostalgia that a remake would provide, but importantly, it would still be a brand new Zelda game. Nintendo has recently said that they had begun work on a new 3DS Legend of Zelda game already, so this seems to contradict that. Of course, this could be another game, but it would be unlikely for the company to work on two Zelda games when they should be very busy with the upcoming release of their new console, Wii U.

[E3] The Last of Us E3 Trailer Shows Us What Naughty Dog's Been Working On.

Dark Chronicle / Dark Cloud 2 (PS2)

Never-Ending Adventure, Gundorada Workshop, Veniccio, Battle for the Future.

Tomohito Nishiura

Released as Dark Cloud 2 in North America, Dark Chronicle is the sequel to Dark Cloud by Level-5 (White Knight Chronicles, Professor Layton). It is composed by Tomohito Nishiura, one of my personal favourite video game composers, who also worked on the soundtrack to Dark Cloud, Rogue Galaxy, White Knight Chronicles and the Professor layton Series. Nishiura has a distinct style that echoes through all he’s video game compositions.

Never-Ending Adventure

The introduction song to Dark Chronicles is a perfect summary of the entire adventure thats experienced in the game. The song plays during the introduction video to the game and is a great away for players to get a sense of what the game is going to offer. Its a large, grand game with many locations and the introduction song helps sum up the entire experience.

Gundorada Workshop

One of the many locations in the game, Gundorada Workshop is a huge area with mechanical buildings and elevators. The OST version of the song is slightly different, with the In-Game song being a little more atmospheric. This version is the OST version.

Veniccio is a location in the game that is situated near a beach and has that distinct vibe to it. The track is slightly similar sounding to a track called ‘Queens’ from the original Dark Cloud and both locations have some similarities to them. Its an upbeat song with the emphasis on the rhythm guitar and the melodic woodwind instrument.

Battle for the Future

I chose a fourth track for this weeks VGM of the Week because the soundtrack to Dark Chronicle is very broad and has some really great tunes. Battle for the Future is one of the most powerful songs on the soundtrack and is played during many of the boss battles in the game. It is one of the stand out tracks.

The official trailer for Disney’s upcoming animated movie Wreck-It Ralph features some of video games most iconic bad guys. Bison from Street Fighter, Eggman or Dr. Robotnik from Sonic the Hedgehog, Bowser from Super Mario Bros, a ghost from Pac Man and a few non specific video game characters.

The movie will be released this year on Boxing Day, the 26th of December.

[E3] Checklist - How did we do?

Before E3 began this year, we posted a prediction checklist for what we thought each major console company would reveal at their respective press conferences. Below are our checklists and which of our predictions were correct, and which were definitely wrong.

Out of our Microsoft E3 predictions, we did pretty good. Out of 13 predictions we were right about 6 of them. Firstly, they did show Halo 4 of course, but didn’t show Kinect integration. Although, Kinect integration will be available. Apart from that, most of it was rather straightforward.

Sony was next and out of 15 predictions, we guessed 6 again. No BioShock, no Gran Turismo, no The Last Guardian, no Final Fantasy and no Kingdom Hearts.

Lastly, Nintendo held their conference and out of 20 predictions, we guessed 9. During the conference a lot of focus was put on the Wii U and no brand new Nintendo games, apart from Pikmin 3 and Nintendo Land, were announced. None from Zelda, Donkey Kong, Metroid, F-Zero or Kirby.

We guessed 21 predictions correctly, out of 48. Roughly 40% success rate! Until next year!

[E3] Fire Emblem: Awakening Releasing in North America. Australia too?

No release date was given, but we now know the game will release. No word on an Australian version at this time, but it seems highly likely.

Alongside this announcement, Nintendo also revealed a new controller named the ‘Wii U Pro Controller.’ This controller is said to offer a more classic take on video game control, and looks quite unique and practical at the same time.

Lastly, Nintendo discussed a little bit about its upcoming network system, which will include a system titled ‘Miiverse.’ This will work a social connection device where players can interact with friends and others around the world and will show players who are playing certain games. For example, an icon will appear representing a certain game. Crowded around that icon will be all the Mii’s from players who are playing that game at that time. You can then chat with those people and discuss the game in general, or ask for help if you are stuck in a certain area. Also, when you chat with other people, you can use the Wii U GamePad’s touchscreen to type, or you can even use the screen to draw an image, much like the 3DS’s SwapNote application.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII becomes Final Fantasy XV. Coming to Wii U as well?

A recent leaked video shows what appears to be a pre-E3 briefing which reveals some rather interesting news about the future of the Final Fantasy series.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII first appeared in 2006 and since then not much information has been revealed, more specifically in the past couple of years. This video suggests that Final Fantasy XIII Versus has now been renamed Final Fantasy VX and will be coming to PlayStation 3 and Wii U. This is exciting news, if its true, because a main-line Final Fantasy game hasn’t appeared on a Nintendo console since Final Fantasy VI, which was released in 1994, 18 years ago. The important thing to note is that Final Fantasy Versus XIII was said to be a more action-RPG oriented game and if it’s released as Final Fantasy XV it would change the more traditional turn-based style of what the series has been known for. Regardless, all will be known next week during E3.

The source also stated that select developers have been given dev kits for the new console.

One of the many FAKE prototype images of Sony’s next console.

It’s important to remember that none of this information is confirmed at this stage but is offered up by a source who has been reliable in the past. Only time will tell what Sony plans to do with an upcoming console and only Sony will be the company responsible for confriming this information.

Europe gets yet another confirmed RPG for the Wii

The third title in Operation Rainfall (the movement to get Japan only RPG’s for the Wii released stateside), Pandora’s Tower, has been given a release date of April the 13th for Europe. This follows Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story, which were previously Japan only titles that were localised for release across European regions, as well as Australia. This news almost guarantees that the game will be released in Australia shortly after, as is/was the case with The Last Story and Xenoblade Chronicles. The latter was recently announced to be given a release in North America, so its possible that Nintendo of America will eventually bring The Last Story, and the recently announced Pandora’s Tower over to American consumers.

With the Wii lacking in future releases, it would be a shame to not see such highly praised games given a deserved release in English regions.

  • Final Fantasy IX - Fighters of the Crystal
  • Final Fantasy V - Hikari wo Motomete
  • Final Fantasy VII - Cosmo Canyon
  • Final Fantasy VIII - Ride On
  • Final Fantasy X - Someday the Dream Will End

The game has not been confirmed for release outside of Japan as of yet. It would be great to see this game released elsewhere. Final Fantasy is a huge worldwide franchise and the game would prove to be quite successful due to the brand name.

Kart racing, Little Big Planet style.

The successful playstation franchise of LittleBigPlanet is mixing it up with the release of a Kart Racing game. Via the official Playstation Twitter, it was announced that LittleBigPlanet Karting is currently in development. No thorough information has been released on the game, except that it is officially in development for Playstation (Playstation 3, Vita or both).

Final Fantasy X HD will be more of a 'Remaster' as opposed to 'Remake'

It was announced last year that Final Fantasy X will be rereleased in HD for its 10-year anniversary. Not much has been revealed about the upcoming rerelease, but recently, Shinji Hasimoto (Square-Enix) stated that the game will be much like the Playstation 2 release, with a few minor changes to gameplay and a lot of changes to the graphics. He stated that the game is not being ‘remade’ but will still look tremendously better.

We have seen number of remastered games in the past year (Ico & Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid Collection) and this is great for people who want to experience these games again or for those who missed them the first time they appeared. It would have been fantastic to see a Final Fantasy PS2 collection, with Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2 and Final Fantasy XII all bundled together, but this release will do just fine, as Final Fantasy X is (in my opinion) one of the best entries in the series. The game will be released on the Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita, no release date has been announced yet.

Goodbye PSN, Hello SEN

Starting soon, The Playstation Network (PSN) will be renamed the Sony Entertainment Network (SEN). This re-branding will allow Sony to use the accounts for the current PSN across a wide broad of online Sony devices, not specifically Playstation branded devices. SEN, previously named Qriocity, is responsible for Sony’s online streaming services, which includes, music, games, videos and e-books. This shane to the PSN network is intended to ‘Unify’ Sony’s online presence.

Sony’s PSN branding took a beating last year when the well-documented PSN hack occurred, this will also allow Sony to release some of the stigma that may be associated with the name PSN.

Xbox 360 successor to be six times more powerful

According to IGN, a new rumour has surfaced about the upcoming successor to the Xbox 360. IGN has stated that their sources have confirmed that the production of the systems GPU will begin before the year is out. It will be based on AMD’s 6000 series, which was introduced last year.

To put this into perspective, based on these rumours, the Xbox 360 successor will be six times more powerful than the current Xbox 360 and roughly 20% more powerful than Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U.

Also, more rumours have been floating around suggesting that it may use Blu-ray discs and may sport some kind of ‘anti-used-game’ technology. This could be a real downer for those who want to resell, or lend a game to someone else. However, it also poses the possibility that games will have a lower price tag because of this. Only time will tell what Xbox plans to do with its future console.

The Last Story coming to Europe (and possibly Australia). [UPDATE]

Looks like Australia will be receiving the game a day earlier than those in Europe. The Last Story will be released for the Wii on February 23, 2012. Get excited for the latest game by Hironobu Sakaguchi, the famed developer of the Final Fantasy series.

The Last Story, an action RPG game for the Wii that was released to rave reviews in Japan, has been given a release date for Europe. The Japanese RPG, which was developed by Mistwalker, a company that was founded by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, received a 38/40 in a Famitsu review, with two of the reviewers giving the game a perfect 10. This is great news for Wii owners who enjoy the RPG genre.

The Game will be hitting shelves in Europe on the 24th of February, which means that Australia may be seeing a release sometime after. The game hasn’t been announced for North America as of yet, but seeing how Xenoblade Chronicles eventually got a release date in North America, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they got one for The Last Story too.

The Wii is a system that is lacking in RPG games, especially those with great reviews, and the release of The Last Story in Europe is helping breath fresh life into the ‘over five year old’ console. Stay tuned to the site for any news on an Australian release date.

Resident Evil 6 Confirmed

It looks like the recent rumours about Resident Evil 6 have turned out to be true (viral campaign at It was announced today that the next entry in the Resident Evil series will be titled Resident Evil 6 and will be released for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 on November the 20th, 2012.

Alongside the announcement, the UK trailer was shown, which can be seen below. This is exciting news for Resident Evil fans and this game appears to be bigger and more traditional then Resident Evil 5. Check out the trailer below, as well as an excerpt from the official press release.

‘It has been ten years since the Raccoon City incident and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place in the belief that it will curb the current resurgence in bioterrorist activity. Due to be by the President’s side is his personal friend and Raccoon City survivor, Leon S. Kennedy, but when the venue suffers a bioterrorist attack, Leon is forced to face a President transformed beyond recognition and make his hardest ever decision. At the same time, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member, Chris Redfield arrives in China, itself under threat of a bioterrorist attack. With no country safe from these attacks and the ensuing outbreaks, the entire world’s population is united by a common fear that there is no hope left.’

3DS demos have arrived

3DS demos have finally arrived on the 3DS today with two upcoming 3DS titles. The first demo comes from Resident Evil: Revelations, which will be released in February and the second comes from Cooking Mama 4. The downside is that the demo for Resident Evil: Revelations takes up quite a lot of space and both demos also can only be played a total of 30 times before they ‘expire.’ This marks a relatively important moment for Nintendo fans as it is more proof that they are working on their online presence. Make sure to pick up the demos, which are available right now for free.

Two 3DS Zelda games on the way? [UPDATE]

[UPDATE] 18.01.2012

Looks like this appears to be a fake. It seemed a little off considering the strange name and oddly designed logo, but it is still a great attempt to fool us all. Stay tuned for any more information regarding a future Zelda title.

A rumour has appeared stating that the upcoming Legend of Zelda game for 3DS will be released as two titles, much like the Oracle of Seasons/Ages games and similar to what Pokemon have done with every major release.

An image has been found of two logos for the potential future games which can be seen below. The Japanese text translates to “Fire Prophecy” and “Ice Prophecy.” The images first appeared on 4Chan.

Fingers crossed that we hear some more details about the upcoming games, and the validity of these logos. Either way, this is exciting news for Zelda fans if it does turn out to have some truth to it.

Early on, Nintendo announced that they were working on two new Zelda titles. Most presumed that they meant one for the 3DS and one for the upcoming Wii U, but this simultaneous release may be more what they meant.

The Last Story Special Edition coming to Europe (Possibly Australia).

A special edition of the upcoming Wii RPG, The Last Story, will be arriving in shelves in Europe in time for its release, according to a Swiss retailer.

The special edition version of the RPG will feature:

- A copy of the game
- A Premium Steelbook
- A mini art book
- A Soundtrack CD consisting of 7 Tracks from the game.

This edition will be released alongside the regular version on February 24th and is currently listed at 75 Euros. This is good news for Australian fans as it introduces the possibility of Australia seeing the same special edition also. Stay tuned for any news regarding this.

Two 3DS games revealed by Ratings.

Sometimes video games get outed by the ratings system in Australia and other countries, such as Japan in this case. It seems we have confirmation of one upcoming game for the 3DS due to being rated down under and the other has been rated in Japan.

The first is a full-fledged release for the 3DS coming from the Harvest Moon franchise, titled Harvest Moon: Tale of Two Towns. Tale of Two Towns is a remake of a game of the same name for the DS. It is very similar, with a few minor changes, including 3D support.

The second is a Virtual Console game that was rated for release in Japan titled The Fortress of Fury 2. This game is the sequel to Fortified Zone, which was released on the VC sometime last year. This game however, was never released outside of Japan, so there is currently no word on whether it will be released any where else.

Epic Mickey 2 now confirmed by Disney

I recently reported that Epic Mickey 2 was rumored to be appearing sometime this year for the Wii, as well as appearing on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. In an online Disney newsletter, which has since been withdrawn, some details were revealed about the upcoming Disney game. The release date for the game is said to be sometime around Christmas, this year, in 2012. No other information, apart from what was said in the other news report I wrote, has been stated as of yet. This now confirms the existence of Epic Mickey 2 as a future release.

Video Game Music of the Week - 9 (2011 Special)

Epic Mickey 2 rumors begin to circulate.

The site,, has begun reporting that Epic Mickey 2 will be releasing on PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. The first entry, Epic Mickey, was originally a Wii-only title, but it seems, according to the rumour, that Epic Mickey 2 will be coming to all three of the major consoles. The game is also said to have co-op multiplayer and will work as a two-player split screen mode, where one player will play as Mickey and the other as Oswald, the Lucky Rabbit.

Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 news.

It’s been well over a year since we saw the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 and fans have been waiting for a word (any word) on the upcoming Episode 2. Finally we have heard some news. During an interview with Gamespot, Ken Balough, Digital Brand Manager for SEGA, it was revealed that the game will be coming sometime in 2012 and a teaser trailer was also released.

You can check out the video below:

It seems the team working on Episode 2 have taken on a lot of what the fans have said about the first episode and are making adjustments to the second episode, even changing the graphics engine, as well as the physics engine. This is a strange concept, to fully change the engine considering it’s an episodic game, but I believe this is will be a welcome change. Personally playing and completing Episode 1, I felt that the physics and the control of Sonic didn’t feel how it should. The fact that Sonic stopped dead in he’s tracks when you stopped holding the right button felt completely foreign to me, and it shouldn’t, considering i’ve played many Sonic games. I think they hit the nail on the head with the classic levels in Sonic Generations and am hoping that Episode 2 has more of a feel that is present in Sonic Generations.

First Party Nintendo title to have Paid DLC

During ‘Nintendo Direct’, a pre recorded video presentation by Satoru Iwata, it was announced that the upcoming Fire Emblem 3DS game will have paid DLC. This is extremely interesting as Nintendo titles don’t have Paid DLC. This is a first for the company, in terms of First Party titles and opens the door to many possibilities for the future of the 3DS and, undoubtably, the upcoming Nintendo Wii U.

During the direct feed video, it was also announced that the upcoming Fire Emblem game is titled Fire Emblem: Kakuse, for the Japanese release. No info on a name for its english release.

Fortune.. Er.. I mean Boom Street hitting Australia in January 2012.

The upcoming collaboration, money game, featuring characters from the Mario universe and the Dragon Quest universe will be on shelves in Australia on the 5th of January. The game will be titled ‘Boom Street’ as opposed to it’s North American name “Fortune Street’. The game is being said to be similar to Monopoly, but with more options and detail. Make sure to check out this game when it is released.

Ragnarok franchise breathes new life through PS Vita Release.

You can now check out the opening video to the upcoming game Ragnarok Odyssey below. The game is being developed by GameArts (Grandia) and will be overseen by GungHo and Gravity. Gravity are the creators of the hugely successful Ragnarok Online MMORPG. The upcoming game has been described as a ‘Hunting Action-RPG’. The game will be hitting shelves in Japan on February 2nd. No word on an American or Australian release as of yet.

Final Fantasy XV rumoured to appear at E3, May be on Wii U

Next year is Final Fantasy’s 25th anniversary and there is a rumour circulating that the next main instalment in the series, Final Fantasy XV, will be revealed at next years E3. The interesting part about this rumour is that it appears it may be coming to the Wii U, as well as PS3 and Xbox 360. This news doesn’t come to a surprise because Square-Enix now has a fine relationship with Nintendo and the Wii U is appearing to be just as powerful as current generation consoles. This years E3 is looking to be an interesting one, with many Wii U related news to be revealed. E3 will begin next year, in June.

New Pokemon game coming to Japan. Maybe not what you expect.

A new Pokemon game has been revealed in Japan, with a trailer to accompany it.

The game is a crossover game entitled ‘Pokemon + Nobunaga’s Ambition.’

Check out the trailer below to get an understanding of what type of game it will be. It is being released for the Nintendo DS in Japan. No word on any other releases as of yet.

Australian Classification Board strikes again.

EA’s upcoming reboot titled ‘Syndicate’ has been refused classification down under in Australia. A statement from the company can be seen below.

“It’s regrettable that government policy in Australia is denying adults the right to play Syndicate. The game will be not be available in Australia despite its enthusiastic response from fans. We were encouraged by the government’s recent agreement to adopt an 18+ age rating for games. However, delays continue to force an arcane censorship on games – cuts that would never be imposed on books or movies. We urge policy makers to take swift action to implement an updated policy that reflects today’s market and gives its millions of adult consumers the right to make their own content choices.”

This is sad news for those looking forward to this game. Syndciate has fallen to the same fate as many games that have been refused classification in Australia, like the recently, well received internationally, Mortal Kombat.

Skyward Sword game breaking glitch. Fix offered by Nintendo of Australia.

A certain game breaking glitch that was discovered by The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword players around the world, now has an official fix to the devastating error. Nintendo of Australia recently issued a statement on their website outlining how to avoid the glitch, and how to repair your save file if you have already activated the sequence in which the save file becomes corrupt.

It’s good to see that Nintendo of Australia has followed in the footsteps of Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe and are offering players the chance to fix their save file if needed, so that players do not have to start their save file again, which would be bothersome, as the glitch appears close to the end of the game.

Playstation Vita restrictions [UPDATE 2]

Looks like the original statement was more accurate. The PSN account is linked to the memory card AND the hardware. A full system restore is required to change accounts. This is a bit of a downer for those wishing to share a Playstation Vita.

The PSN account restrictions are linked to the Memory Card. By removing the memory card, and placing another one in the system, you can then be able to have another PSN account. More specifically, the accounts are tethered to the Vita’s memory card.

Looks like the upcoming portable console from Playstation, The Playstation Vita, will restrict users from using multiple PSN accounts on the device. The console will be tethered to a single PSN account, and if the user wishes to change the account, they must first perform a full restore on their portable gaming device. This won’t affect single users really, but may be a burden for those who wish to share the device with brothers/sisters or anyone else. The Playstation Vita is due for release on February the 23rd, early next year, retailing at AUD$349.95.

Metal Gear Rising 'was' cancelled.

When Metal Gear Rising was first shown, fans of the series were most likely expecting to hear some news about the game in the coming months after. It had been a long time since we heard any news related to this game, before the VGA’s of course, and the reason for this was apparently the game had been literally canceled at one point. The team at Kojima Productions loved the gameplay element of being able to cut anything in any way the player wanted, but found it difficult to incorporate this into a full game with a fleshed out story. It wasn’t until Platinum Games offered to take reigns on the development of the game, that it was then considered ‘not cancelled’. The team also decided to rename the game, to give a more distinct difference from this game to the Metal Gear Solid series.

Apparently, The game was also planned to take place between Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4, but now, after Platinum games took control, the game will take place
after Metal gear Solid 4. No reasoning behind this has been explained, but we can now rest assured knowing that the game is definitely going to see release at some point in the future.

[VGA's] New Tony Hawk game to be announced at the VGA's

At the VGA’s, Tony Hawk announced that there will be a Tony Hawk’s Skateboarding HD game. It will combine select levels from the first and second Tony Hawk’s games and be available on a number of digital platforms sometime next year. No word on a release date as of yet.

Over the past years, the Tony Hawk video game franchise has mellowed down from a sports video game phenomena, to a repetitive, lack luster series. The year 2011 was the first year that the video game series did not see a release of any kind. But alas, fans of Tony Hawks skateboarding may be in for a treat as rumour has it that a new Tony Hawk’s game will be revealed at the upcoming Video Game Awards. Tony Hawk recently announced over a twitter post:

‘I’ll be announcing the upcoming release of something new on Sat; the same day as the Spike Video Game Awards. Coincidence? I think not.’

This is a pretty big hint as to what he will be announcing. Stay tuned for more information as the Video Game Awards is just a day away.

Mega Man infiltrates iPhone in Japan

The Mega Man franchise has been relatively dormant in the past year or two, with the cancellation of two games, Mega Man Universe and Mega Man Legends 3. As of today, Japanese iPhone owners are able to download Mega Man X with touch controls and a number of new challenges. The game is based on the previous mobile port of the game, as opposed to the SNES port and its important to note that the game seems like it may be a difficult game to play on the iPhone, as tight controls are necessary to succeeding in Mega Man X. Nonetheless the game has seen release.

No word on a release date for Australia, or North America for that matter, but stay tuned.

Ninja Gaiden III arriving in March.

Ninja Gaiden has finally been given a more accurate release window. The third iteration of the Ninja Gaiden franchise will hit the shelves in North America sometime in March of 2012. Yosuke Hayashi, the lead for Team Ninja, announced at an event in San Francisco that the game will be available at this time for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

Ninja Gaiden II received a later release date for the Playstation 3 then the Xbox 360, but it appears this won’t be the case with Ninja Gaiden III.
