Sony has officially announced the next PlayStation, fittingly titled the ‘PlayStation 4.’

The console itself was not shown, however the new DualShock 4 Controller was. The console itself will release ‘This holiday season’ and some of the major specifications of Sony’s new hardware are as follows:

- 8-core 64-bit x86 “Jaguar” CPU by AMD
- Radeon GPU, 1.84 TFLOPS
- Blu-Ray Drive
- 8GB of unified GDDR5 RAM, 176GB/sec
- 802.11n WiFi

- HDMI optical out

Gamers will be able to live stream their games via services such as Ustream and the new DualShock 4 controller will include a SHARE button, allowing players to share a video clip from the last several minutes of gameplay. The system will not be able to play PlayStation 3 games, but a ‘game-streaming’ service will be available in the future, allowing gamers to play PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 games via Gaikai.
