Fable (Xbox)

Oakvale, Darkwood, Temple of Light

Russell Shaw

Fable released in 2004 for the original Xbox and later released on both Windows PC, in 2005, and Mac OSX, in 2008. The game was developed by Big Blue Box, a satellite studio of Peter Molyneux’s Lionhead Studios, and its release was widely anticipated due to the level of hype delivered from Peter Molyneux during its pre-release.

Oakvale is not only the hometown of the main character in
Fable, it’s also the location of the memorable opening moments of the game. The song is filled with a very particular mix of fantasy and mystery, partly due to its wide range of orchestral instruments and sounds. The track is very diverse and the performance of the song itself is part of what makes the entire soundtrack very colourful.

As is expected from the title itself, Darkwood is a darker theme with a heavy dose of mystery attached. The song begins with an eery endless string section straight out of a horror movie. The main theme to the song comes in moments after the one minute mark and features some recurring themes that are found in some of the other tunes in Fable.

Temple Of Light
There is a very simple and captivating sound that surrounds the song Temple Of Light. It has a very soothing quality to it that helps build a level of emotion through its use of tone.
